LOUISVILLE, Ky— A tragic and senseless act of violence has left a Louisville community in shock, as authorities search for Labradford Jamarr Ward, 35, who is accused of fatally shooting two women early Monday morning in Shively.
According to Sgt. Jordan Brown with the Shively Police Department, Ward is wanted on charges of murder, murder – domestic violence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Police warn the public that Ward is armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
Shooting Unfolds in Early Morning Hours
The fatal incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, when officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Kingswood Way, near Cane Run Road and Ralph Avenue, following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found two women suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the victims as:
- Amia N. Cox, 22
- Sontia R. Simmons, 26
Both young women were in the prime of their lives, and their sudden, violent deaths have devastated family members and shaken the entire Shively community.
Suspect Identified as Labradford Jamarr Ward
Labradford Jamarr Ward is the primary suspect in the double homicide. Sgt. Brown confirmed that Ward was previously stopped by police during a traffic incident in May 2025, and police have released bodycam footage and a prior mugshot to assist in identifying him.
Ward is believed to be driving a 2021 red Ford Mustang with Kentucky license plate F3W849. Police say that Ward has a criminal record and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. His alleged involvement in this deadly attack has intensified urgency around his arrest.
Investigators believe that at least one of the victims may have had a past relationship with Ward, leading authorities to classify one of the murder charges as domestic in nature.
