YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, MI — A tragic hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning has left a community searching for answers as Michigan State Police (MSP) Brighton Post troopers continue to investigate the death of a pedestrian along a stretch of I-94 in Washtenaw County.

On May 25, 2025, at approximately 2:25 a.m., troopers from the MSP Brighton Post were dispatched to the westbound lanes of I-94 near the US-12 Bypass in Ypsilanti Township, following reports of a man walking unclothed in the roadway. Multiple emergency calls had come in describing a disoriented male moving eastbound in the westbound lanes, posing a serious hazard to himself and oncoming traffic.

Huron Valley Ambulance crews arrived at the scene ahead of troopers and attempted to locate and assist the individual. However, before any emergency personnel could make contact, a black sedan—traveling westbound—struck the man and continued driving, fleeing the scene without stopping.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts performed by EMS and supporting agencies, the 52-year-old male victim from Warren, Michigan, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Ongoing Investigation and Call for Public Assistance

The suspect vehicle involved in the crash is believed to be a black sedan, which may now have damage on the passenger side. Authorities have not yet identified the make or model of the vehicle and are appealing to the public for assistance.

MSP is asking anyone with information about the crash, the vehicle involved, or any dashcam or surveillance footage that may have captured the incident to contact the MSP Brighton Post at (810) 227-1051.

Additionally, if you are the driver involved in the incident, officials are urging you to come forward and speak with law enforcement. “This is a matter of accountability and closure for the victim’s family,” a trooper at the Brighton Post stated. “We hope whoever was behind the wheel does the right thing.”

Community Reaction and Support

The tragic nature of the incident has struck a nerve throughout both Ypsilanti and Warren communities, with residents expressing sympathy for the victim and frustration over another hit-and-run fatality on Michigan highways. Local advocacy groups are once again calling for improved highway safety measures and public awareness around pedestrian incidents—especially those occurring at night or in areas with high-speed traffic.

Agencies Involved

Troopers from the MSP Brighton Post were supported at the scene by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Ypsilanti City Fire Department, and Huron Valley Ambulance. The combined efforts of first responders underscore the seriousness of the crash and the coordinated attempt to assist the victim and preserve the scene for investigation.

As the investigation continues, Michigan State Police urge all motorists to remain alert, obey traffic laws, and prioritize safety—particularly during late-night hours when visibility and road behavior can vary unpredictably.

If you have any relevant information, please do not hesitate to contact the Brighton Post. Your help could be vital in bringing justice to this case.
