MONROE, La. — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Monroe early Tuesday morning as police confirmed that three people, including a young child, lost their lives in a shooting on the 2000 block of Grammont Street. The incident, which took place in the quiet residential area, has left the community in mourning and searching for answers.
Authorities have identified the victims as 26-year-old Jaborris Simpson, his 2-year-old daughter Jhersi Simpson, and another adult male, Jamal Bosley. According to police, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area and discovered the three victims at the scene. Each had suffered gunshot wounds, and despite efforts by emergency responders, all were pronounced dead shortly after being found.
Investigators say the scene was both tragic and complex, prompting the Monroe Police Department to immediately launch a thorough investigation. Detectives from multiple divisions are now working together to determine what led to the fatal encounter. Police indicated that the victims and the suspect were acquainted, suggesting that the event was not a random attack but rather stemmed from a personal dispute.
During a press briefing later that day, Monroe Police officials shared that narcotics may have played a role in the case. While specific details have not yet been released, investigators are exploring whether drug-related activity may have been connected to the violence. Officials stressed that they are following several leads and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The death of the young child, in particular, has struck a deep emotional chord within the community. Neighbors described the area as usually peaceful and said they were shocked to wake up to news of such devastating violence. Many residents have expressed sadness and disbelief that such a tragedy could occur in their neighborhood.
Mayor Friday Ellis addressed the public during a community statement, calling the loss “heartbreaking and deeply disturbing.” The mayor emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation between residents and law enforcement, urging everyone to assist in any way possible to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
In an effort to encourage public assistance, Mayor Ellis announced a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. He appealed to residents to share anything they might know, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could prove vital to the investigation. “This is a tragedy that has shaken our city,” Ellis said. “We are asking for the community’s help to bring closure to this grieving family.”
Meanwhile, Monroe Police detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses who may have seen or heard something before or after the shooting. Crime scene specialists have collected physical evidence, which is now being analyzed to help piece together the events leading up to the violence.
Local organizations and community leaders are also offering support to the affected families. Counselors and faith-based groups have extended condolences and assistance, recognizing the emotional toll such an event has on both relatives and the larger community.
Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Monroe Police Department or Crime Stoppers of North Delta. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for the reward. As the investigation continues, authorities hope that with the community’s help, justice will soon be served for the victims whose lives were tragically cut short.
