New Bern, NC – July 7, 2025 — A 19-year-old man from New Bern is facing serious felony charges after an investigation into a reported sexual assault involving a juvenile. The Craven County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Javier Vazquez, of Winter Place Court, has been arrested in connection with the case.
The investigation began after authorities received a report regarding the sexual assault of a minor female. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation, which led to identifying Vazquez as the suspect. Based on their findings, the magistrate issued a warrant for his arrest.
Arrest Made and Charges Filed
Vazquez was taken into custody earlier today by deputies with both the Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Special Investigations Bureau. He is now facing a charge of felony statutory rape of a child, one of the most serious offenses under North Carolina law.
Following his arrest, Vazquez was booked into the Craven County Sheriff’s Office Confinement Facility, where he is currently being held without bond, due to the severity of the allegations.
Investigation Ongoing
The Sheriff’s Office has stated that this remains an active and ongoing investigation, and further charges could be added depending on what additional evidence is uncovered.
