News Release – Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Under Investigation in Eaton County

Chester Township, MI – June 15, 2025 — A tragic crash claimed the life of a Sunfield man Sunday afternoon in Chester Township, prompting a continuing investigation by troopers from the Michigan State Police Lansing Post.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Mulliken Road and M-50 Highway following reports of a serious collision involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, troopers determined that a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, operated by a 30-year-old woman from Mulliken, Michigan, was traveling southbound on Mulliken Road when it failed to stop at the intersection’s posted stop sign. As a result, the Equinox entered the path of a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica traveling northwest on M-50.

The Pacifica, driven by a 43-year-old woman from Portland, Michigan, was struck forcefully on the side. The collision caused one of the passengers in the Pacifica—a 29-year-old male from Sunfield—to be ejected from the vehicle. Emergency personnel transported the man to the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Hospital in Charlotte, where he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities have not confirmed whether the man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were also transported to UM Hospital for medical evaluation. As of the latest report, both are expected to recover.

Investigators have stated that alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash. However, the incident remains under active investigation as troopers continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact the Michigan State Police Lansing Post at 517-322-1907.

The intersection of Mulliken Road and M-50 is known for limited visibility and high-speed cross traffic. Sunday’s fatal crash has reignited community conversations about the need for enhanced traffic control or improved signage at the junction to prevent future tragedies.

The name of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Additional updates will be released as the investigation progresses.

This incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the critical importance of obeying traffic control devices and wearing seatbelts at all times. The Michigan State Police extend their deepest condolences to the victim’s family and all those affected by this devastating event.
