Oswego Man Charged with Child Sexual Abuse Material After Disturbing Discovery by Kane County Task Force
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, has announced the arrest and charging of Ethan Garcia, a resident of Oswego, following an extensive investigation into the possession and dissemination of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Sheriff Ron Hain disclosed that Garcia faces multiple felony charges related to the illegal possession and distribution of explicit materials involving minors. The charges include:hi
– One count of Disseminating Child Pornography, a Class X felony
– Three counts of Disseminating Child Pornography, Class 1 felonies
– Four counts of Possessing Child Pornography, Class 2 felonies
These charges are based on allegations that, on or about February 28, 2024, Garcia possessed and shared a video and several images depicting child sexual exploitation.
The investigation, spearheaded by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, a specialized task force established in 2022 to combat child sexual exploitation, culminated in the issuance of an arrest warrant. Garcia turned himself in to authorities at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office on July 23, 2025.
During a pretrial detention hearing on the same day, the State’s Attorney’s Office requested Garcia’s detention, but the court denied the motion. Garcia was released under Pretrial Supervision with strict conditions, including:
– No unsupervised contact with minors
– No access to the internet
– No use or possession of cameras or recording devices
Garcia is scheduled to appear next in court on August 13, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Courtroom 211 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
