According to a press release from the Waterbury Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, in the area of 1 Market Square, a short distance from the popular market and near one of the city’s main downtown access points.
Authorities report that the victim, an unidentified adult male, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the roadway. Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene, and the driver cooperated fully with authorities. No injuries were reported to the driver. Traffic delays are expected, and commuters are being urged to seek alternate routes until further notice.
This incident is yet another reminder of the hazards both pedestrians and drivers face, especially during low-visibility hours. The Waterbury Police Department has not released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The department is committed to determining all factors that contributed to the collision, including lighting conditions, vehicle speed, pedestrian visibility, and driver alertness.
