Road Rage Shooter Arrested After Firing at Car with Children Inside in Bexar County

BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS – A terrifying road rage incident turned into a major arrest after authorities apprehended a suspect accused of opening fire on a vehicle with two children inside. The incident unfolded on May 29, 2025, and ended with the arrest of 29-year-old Layne Reynolds, who now faces multiple felony charges related to the brazen and dangerous attack.

A Routine Drive Turns into a Nightmare

The incident began when a mother and her two young daughters were driving through the 10000 block of Green Prairie after picking up food from Chick-fil-A. According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the family was traveling peacefully when a black dually truck began aggressively tailing them. The victim reported that a passenger inside the truck suddenly began shooting at her vehicle without provocation.

The terrifying ordeal did not end there. The truck reportedly continued to follow her vehicle before eventually stopping. At that point, two suspects exited the vehicle—one of whom pointed a firearm directly at the mother. Fearing for their lives, she quickly fled the scene while ensuring the safety of her daughters.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the trauma from such a life-threatening encounter—especially with children involved—has left the family and community shaken.

Crime Scene and Evidence

Deputies swiftly responded to the scene, where they located multiple shell casings scattered along Old Corpus Christi Road. The evidence corroborated the victim’s account and further solidified the seriousness of the offense. Investigators acted quickly to track down the individuals responsible.

Thanks to forensic analysis, witness accounts, and surveillance footage, authorities were able to identify one of the shooters as Layne Reynolds. His vehicle—a black dually truck—matched the description provided by the victim, and evidence linked him directly to the assault.

The Arrest and Charges

On May 29, 2025, members of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Top Offender Program (STOP) apprehended Reynolds without incident. He was taken into custody on multiple felony warrants, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and endangering a child.

Reynolds was transported to the Bexar County Jail, where he remains in custody. His bond has been set at $75,000.

Community and Law Enforcement Reaction

The incident has sparked concern throughout the community, with many residents expressing outrage over such reckless violence, especially involving innocent children.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar issued a statement praising the swift work of deputies and the STOP unit, emphasizing the department’s commitment to public safety:

“This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, and we will not tolerate it in Bexar County. We are thankful that no lives were lost and proud of our deputies for tracking down and arresting the suspect so quickly.”

A Call for Safer Roads

As road rage incidents continue to rise nationwide, this case serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly a moment of anger behind the wheel can escalate into life-threatening violence. Law enforcement officials are urging drivers to stay calm on the road and to report any aggressive or dangerous behavior to authorities immediately.

Officials have also reiterated the importance of community cooperation in solving such crimes. In this case, timely reporting, detailed witness descriptions, and active law enforcement collaboration were instrumental in bringing the suspect to justice.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation is still ongoing as authorities work to determine whether additional suspects were involved and if more charges will be filed. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with further information about the incident to come forward.

In the meantime, the mother and her two daughters are safe, but the psychological scars of the encounter will take much longer to heal. The community stands in solidarity with the victims, demanding justice and safer streets for all.
