Shooting Reported Near Kayla’s Bar on Lathrop Avenue, Racine — Male Victim Shot in the Leg
RACINE, Wis. — A man was shot in the leg Monday evening near Kayla’s Bar along Lathrop Avenue, prompting a rapid response from both the Racine Police Department (RAPD) and Racine Fire Department (RFD). The incident occurred in the 2000 block of Lathrop Avenue, and authorities are now actively investigating what led up to the gunfire.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the area shortly after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was located just outside the popular local bar, alert but clearly in pain.
RFD paramedics administered first aid on scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to initial reports.
Investigation Underway
The area around Kayla’s Bar was quickly cordoned off with crime scene tape as detectives began canvassing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage. No arrests have been made at this time, and the shooter remains at large.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim or any potential suspects but are urging anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.
“We believe this was not a random act of violence,” said a RAPD spokesperson. “We’re following several leads and encourage the community to assist us by reporting any relevant information.”
Community Urged to Assist
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting — especially those who were in or around Kayla’s Bar at the time — to contact the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at (262) 635-7756 or Crime Stoppers at (262) 636-9330 to remain anonymous.
Increased Police Presence
As a precaution, RAPD has increased patrols in the area to deter further violence and reassure residents. Business owners and patrons in the Lathrop Avenue corridor have been cooperative and are working closely with police to provide any assistance necessary.
