MILWAUKEE, WI — A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the abduction of 7-year-old Jamal White, who was safely located Saturday afternoon following an Amber Alert issued on July 11.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, Jamal was found around 39th and Lloyd Streets, and was reported to be safe.
The individual discovered with the child was arrested at the scene.
However, investigators believe that while the suspect was in possession of the child at the time, they may not have been the original abductor.
Jamal was last seen around 7:00 p.m. Friday evening near 61st and Hustis Streets, where witnesses say he was forcibly taken at gunpoint and placed into a white Jeep Renegade by a masked individual wearing a black hoodie and carrying a handgun.
The abduction prompted an immediate Amber Alert and a coordinated search effort involving local law enforcement and community members.
Surveillance footage showing the suspect vehicle was released to the public to aid in the investigation.
Jamal was described as approximately 4 feet tall, weighing 80 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.
While the child is now safe, the investigation remains ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the abduction and whether additional individuals were involved.
