Tappahannock, Virginia — Devin Nicole Woodland was killed in a devastating head-on collision midday Wednesday, leaving her community reeling and prompting a thorough investigation by local authorities. The 29-year-old driver was found lifeless in her vehicle after her Kia Sorento crossed into oncoming traffic along Kino Road, colliding with a Chevrolet Silverado.

The crash occurred just north of Clarke Lane around 12:45 p.m., according to Tappahannock Police. First responders arrived within minutes, but Woodland was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews described the collision as severe, with both vehicles sustaining heavy damage.

The driver of the Silverado, 59-year-old Timothy Winn McKinley, was seriously injured in the crash and had to be airlifted to a Richmond hospital. Authorities confirmed he was conscious during transport but faced significant injuries from the impact.

Police reported that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Officials emphasized that this may have contributed to the severity of the injuries and Woodland’s death. “Seatbelts save lives,” a police spokesperson noted, urging drivers to always buckle up.

Investigators closed Kino Road for several hours while they documented the scene, collected evidence, and reconstructed the collision. Officers examined skid marks, vehicle positions, and debris to determine how Woodland’s vehicle crossed into the opposite lane. Police say the investigation is ongoing, including a review of speed, visibility, and potential distractions.

Woodland, known in Tappahannock for her warmth and kindness, was remembered by friends and neighbors as a compassionate person who brightened the lives of those around her. Social media tributes and community messages have poured in since the news of her death, reflecting the impact she had on her community.

“Devin was always ready to help anyone,” said a close friend. “Her smile, her energy, her generosity — it’s hard to imagine Tappahannock without her. This is just heartbreaking.” Her loss has deeply affected the people she worked with, went to school with, and lived near.

The severity of the collision has prompted renewed safety warnings for drivers along Kino Road, a stretch of highway that sees frequent traffic but limited lighting. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and to adhere to speed limits and safety protocols, especially during midday and evening hours.

Authorities have indicated that toxicology reports and vehicle inspections are underway to fully understand the circumstances that led to the crash. While Woodland’s sudden death has left many questions unanswered, the investigation aims to provide closure for the families and the broader Tappahannock community.

As Tappahannock mourns, community members are coming together to support Woodland’s family and friends. Memorials and tributes have been organized locally, highlighting her positive influence and the void her passing leaves. “She touched so many lives,” one neighbor said quietly. “We’ll always remember her.”
