Tragedy in Tillman Park: 20-Year-Old Eriyn Brionne White Identified as Victim in Fatal Fort Wayne Shooting

Fort Wayne, Indiana — A late-night gathering in Tillman Park on Fort Wayne’s south side ended in tragedy on Monday, June 23, when gunfire erupted just before midnight, leaving one young man dead and another seriously injured. The Allen County Coroner’s Office has now identified the deceased as 20-year-old Eriyn Brionne White, a resident of Fort Wayne. His death marks the 18th homicide in Allen County so far this year, casting a somber cloud over a city grappling with escalating violence.

The Incident

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched to Tillman Park around 11:50 p.m. following multiple reports of a shooting during a “large gathering” of people. Upon arrival, first responders found two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One man, later identified as Eriyn White, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was rushed to a nearby hospital in life-threatening condition. His identity and current status have not yet been disclosed to the public.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as panic spread through the crowd after shots rang out. Several people fled the area before police arrived, complicating initial efforts to identify suspects or a motive. Detectives remain on the scene collecting evidence, and the investigation is ongoing.

A Life Cut Short

Eriyn Brionne White was just 20 years old, full of promise, with his whole life ahead of him. Those who knew him describe a kind-hearted and thoughtful young man who was trying to find his path in life. He was known in his community for his loyalty to friends and his quiet, determined nature.

“He wasn’t perfect, but he was trying,” said one family friend. “He didn’t deserve to be taken from this world like this. We’re devastated. Absolutely devastated.”

The pain of Eriyn’s sudden and violent death is being felt across neighborhoods in southeast Fort Wayne, where friends and family members are grappling with the unthinkable reality of his absence.

Community Reaction and Concerns

Tillman Park, typically a space for recreation and community events, has now become the latest backdrop to a grim and growing trend of gun violence in Fort Wayne. Residents say this most recent shooting underscores concerns about safety during large public gatherings and the pressing need for greater community intervention.

“We used to feel safe here,” said a nearby resident. “But now, even parks aren’t sacred anymore. Something has to change.”

City leaders and anti-violence organizations have reiterated calls for peace and for residents to come forward with information that could help identify those responsible. Fort Wayne Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video footage from the scene to contact the FWPD Homicide Division or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

An Ongoing Investigation

As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and investigators are working tirelessly to piece together what led to the violence. Authorities are exploring whether the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute, gang-related tensions, or another form of conflict that escalated at the park.

“We need the community’s help,” said a Fort Wayne PD spokesperson. “If you saw anything, heard anything, or know anything, please don’t stay silent. Help us bring justice to Eriyn and his family.”

Honoring Eriyn’s Life

As the investigation continues, Eriyn’s family is beginning the painful process of planning a memorial to honor his life. Supporters have begun organizing a vigil at Tillman Park, where candles and handwritten messages already mark the location where he spent his final moments.

Counseling and trauma support services are being made available through local organizations for those impacted by the violence.
