Tragic Accident in Hinesville: 2-Year-Old Child Killed After Being Run Over by Vehicle in Walmart Parking Lot

HINESVILLE, GA — June 13, 2025 — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Hinesville on Friday afternoon when a 2-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 801A E General Stewart Way.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., Liberty County 911 dispatch began receiving multiple frantic calls reporting that a young child had been run over by a vehicle in the busy shopping plaza’s parking lot. Emergency personnel from Liberty County EMS and the Hinesville Fire Department rushed to the scene and found the toddler unresponsive on the pavement.

According to early reports, the child had sustained severe injuries from the vehicle impact and was not breathing upon arrival of first responders. Life-saving measures were immediately administered on-site, including CPR, as paramedics worked desperately to resuscitate the young girl. She was quickly transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Despite the tireless efforts of emergency medical staff, the 2-year-old was tragically pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at the hospital.

The Hinesville Police Department has since launched a full investigation into the incident. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the Walmart parking lot and speaking with witnesses in an effort to determine exactly how the fatal collision occurred. At this time, no charges have been announced, and officials have not released the identity of the child pending notification of all family members.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the child was with a parent or guardian at the time of the accident or how she came to be in the path of the vehicle. Investigators will also be examining whether speed, distraction, or other contributing factors were involved.

The community has reacted with shock and sorrow over the tragic loss. The parking lot of the Walmart store remained partially cordoned off for several hours as police conducted their investigation.

“This is a deeply devastating incident,” said a spokesperson for the Hinesville Police Department. “Our hearts go out to the child’s family, and we ask that the public keep them in their thoughts during this unimaginably difficult time.”

The Walmart Neighborhood Market has also issued a brief statement, expressing condolences to the grieving family and pledging full cooperation with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation.

Local residents have already begun organizing online vigils and discussing ways to improve safety in busy commercial parking lots—particularly around child safety awareness and traffic calming measures.

As the investigation continues, the City of Hinesville mourns alongside the devastated family, united in grief for a young life taken far too soon.

Our deepest condolences are extended to the family of the child.
