According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the teenager was parked in a 1995 Mercury Cougar on the eastbound side of U.S. 54. The vehicle was positioned partially on the shoulder, with its left front and rear tires extending into the right lane of travel.
A 2019 Ford Flex, driven by a 41-year-old man from Eldon, was traveling eastbound when it struck the rear of the Mercury Cougar. The impact was severe, and the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Flex was not injured in the collision.
Authorities have noted that neither the teenager nor the other driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
