Tragic Crash in Midland County Claims One Life, Leaves Another Seriously Injured

MIDLAND, TX — A devastating single-vehicle crash in Midland County has left one man dead and another seriously injured, casting a somber cloud over the community. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the incident occurred on County Road 120 near County Road 1184, and was reported late Friday evening.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Blaze Jeremy Rhoden, driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, was heading eastbound on County Road 120 when the fatal accident unfolded. Authorities say Rhoden failed to maintain a single lane, veered off the paved road onto the north dirt shoulder, and collided with two mailboxes before ultimately crashing into a stationary semi-truck parked off the roadway.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where Rhoden was tragically pronounced dead. According to DPS, he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The vehicle’s passenger, 25-year-old Gregory Uriegas, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported via emergency services to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he continues to receive medical care. His current condition has not been updated publicly, but officials have confirmed he survived the impact.

The DPS and local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, including whether speed, distraction, or road conditions may have been contributing factors. Toxicology reports are pending as part of the standard investigative process.

The stretch of County Road 120 where the crash occurred is a relatively narrow two-lane rural route, known to locals for its limited lighting and lack of shoulders in certain sections. Residents in the area have long expressed concerns about visibility and speeding, though no official statement has linked road design to this particular incident.

Family and friends of Blaze Jeremy Rhoden are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of a young life. Rhoden, who was described by those who knew him as outgoing, loyal, and family-oriented, leaves behind loved ones grappling with the shock of his death. Social media has since filled with tributes and memories from those who grew up with him or worked alongside him.

One friend wrote,

“He had a big heart, and he was always the one to make people laugh even in the darkest moments. This is heartbreaking.”

Meanwhile, prayers and well-wishes have been pouring in for Gregory Uriegas, as the community rallies for his recovery. Friends and family are urging the public to respect the privacy of both families during this incredibly difficult time.

Midland County officials have not released information regarding funeral arrangements but have stated that grief counselors and local support resources are available for those affected by the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, the Texas Department of Public Safety is urging all drivers to stay alert, obey posted speed limits, and avoid distractions while behind the wheel. This incident serves as a tragic reminder of how quickly routine travel can turn into a life-altering event.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has relevant information is encouraged to contact the Texas DPS Midland Office.
