Triple Shooting and Vehicle Collision Under Investigation in Hattiesburg — Four Injured on Hardy Street

Spread the News with People

HATTIESBURG, MS — A quiet summer evening turned violent in Hattiesburg Saturday night as police responded to a triple shooting that also involved a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, leaving four individuals hospitalized and a community on edge. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on July 5 in the 5000 block of Hardy Street, a busy commercial area not far from restaurants, retail, and student housing.

According to the Hattiesburg Police Department (HPD), officers arrived at the scene to find a chaotic and alarming situation. Two males and one female had all sustained gunshot wounds, while a second woman was also injured after being struck by a vehicle—believed to have occurred during or just after the shooting.

Emergency medical teams quickly responded and transported all four victims to a nearby hospital. As of Sunday morning, all individuals are reported to be in stable condition, though their identities and specific injuries have not yet been disclosed.

The scene was cordoned off for hours as detectives and forensic teams worked through the night to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the violence. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made as of this writing.

The motive behind the shooting also remains unclear, and investigators are pursuing multiple leads. Given the location and timing, police believe there may be numerous witnesses or individuals with surveillance footage or cellphone videos that could help piece together what happened.

HPD is now calling on the public for assistance:

“Anyone with information, no matter how small, is urged to contact the Hattiesburg Police Department at 601-579-7900. You can also submit tips anonymously to Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP,” the department said in a statement released Sunday.

Saturday night’s shooting has left residents of the Hardy Street area shaken, particularly those living nearby or working late-night shifts at businesses in the vicinity. Several community members expressed concerns about rising violence in what has typically been considered a safe area.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional details will be released as they are confirmed by law enforcement.

As the city reels from yet another act of violence, officials are urging calm while reiterating their commitment to public safety, transparency, and accountability.
