Two Dallas Police Officers Placed on Administrative Leave Following Alcohol-Related Arrests

DALLAS, TX — The Dallas Police Department has placed two of its officers on administrative leave after separate incidents involving alcohol-related arrests that occurred within a 24-hour span.

The first incident took place on Monday, June 10, when Officer Elijah Walker was arrested by the Euless Police Department for driving while intoxicated. The offense is categorized as a Class B misdemeanor under Texas law. Officer Walker, who has been with the Dallas Police Department (DPD) since March 2023, is currently assigned to the Central Patrol Division. Following his arrest, he was immediately placed on administrative leave while the department’s Internal Affairs Division conducts a thorough investigation into the matter.

Just one day later, on Tuesday, June 11, another officer with the department, Jerrid Couch, was arrested by Dallas police officers for public intoxication. This offense is classified as a Class C misdemeanor. Officer Couch joined the DPD in September 2023 and is currently assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division. Like Walker, he has also been placed on administrative leave as an internal review into the incident gets underway.

In a brief statement, the Dallas Police Department acknowledged both arrests and confirmed that Internal Affairs is actively investigating to determine if either officer violated departmental policies or standards of conduct. The department emphasized that it holds all officers to high ethical and professional expectations, both on and off duty.

“These incidents are deeply concerning, and we are taking them very seriously,” a DPD spokesperson said. “While the legal proceedings take their course, our Internal Affairs Division is focused on a comprehensive review to determine the appropriate administrative response.”

Neither officer has made a public statement regarding their arrest. There has also been no indication yet as to whether either has retained legal representation or when any court appearances are scheduled.

The department’s handling of these cases will likely be watched closely by the public and city officials, as calls for transparency and accountability in law enforcement remain a top priority in Dallas and across the country.

As the investigations continue, the Dallas Police Department reiterated its commitment to upholding public trust and maintaining the integrity of the badge. Further updates will be shared as more details become available.
