CLEVELAND, Ohio — Authorities have identified the two teenagers killed in a tragic rollover crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 77 in downtown Cleveland. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Kevin DeJesus and Aidan Moreno, both 18-year-old residents of Painesville, died from injuries sustained in the incident.
The crash occurred around 1:17 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-77, near the connection to I-90 East at the East 9th Street and Ontario Street split. According to Cleveland Police, the vehicle, a single car carrying three occupants, was traveling at a high rate of speed, repeatedly passing other vehicles on the right side of the roadway. As the car approached the curve leading to I-90 East, it veered off the left side of the road into a grass median and rolled several times down an embankment.
All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the violent crash. Kevin DeJesus was pronounced dead at the scene, while Aidan Moreno was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services, where he was later pronounced deceased. A third occupant, a 17-year-old male, was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Cleveland Police have not released an update on his current condition.
Investigators believe speed was a significant factor in the crash, which remains under active investigation. No additional details regarding the cause of the crash or potential contributing factors, such as alcohol or drugs, have been released at this time. Cleveland Police continue to examine evidence to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
