On June 9, 2024, at approximately 1:51 p.m., officers from the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) Patrol Division responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the 900 block of Amador Street. Upon arrival, officers quickly began canvassing the area based on information provided by concerned community members.

Witnesses at the scene directed officers to the 1300 block of Alabama Street, where they discovered an adult female victim in a residential yard. She had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was in need of immediate medical attention. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and transported her to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

Before being taken for care, the victim managed to identify her assailant as 41-year-old Hector Placencia-Gazmuri, a resident of Antioch. Multiple witnesses further corroborated this information, stating they saw the victim exit a moving vehicle just moments after gunshots were heard. Evidence at the scene supported their statements, indicating that the shots were fired from within the vehicle.

VPD detectives launched an intensive investigation, which led to the identification of Hector Placencia-Gazmuri as the primary suspect. Based on the strength of eyewitness testimony and physical evidence, an arrest warrant was secured for Placencia-Gazmuri on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.

Despite initial efforts to locate him, Placencia-Gazmuri fled the country. In a coordinated effort involving local and federal authorities, he was apprehended in Mexico in April 2025. Following his capture, he was extradited to the United States to face charges related to the June 2024 incident.

On April 29, 2025, Vallejo police officers made contact with Placencia-Gazmuri at the Martinez Detention Facility in Contra Costa County, where he was already being held on unrelated charges. Plans are currently in motion to transfer him to the Solano County Jail, where he will be officially booked on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.

The Vallejo Police Department commends the collaborative efforts of all involved agencies that contributed to this arrest and extradition. This case remains a reminder of the importance of public cooperation and the relentless pursuit of justice for victims of violent crime.

Anyone with additional information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Vallejo Police Department. Investigators continue to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the events of that day.
