The Visalia Police Department is reaching out to the public for assistance in a tragic and ongoing investigation following a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a local bicyclist. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to bring justice to the victim and his family.
On the evening of Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Visalia police officers were dispatched to the scene of a collision on southbound Akers Street, just south of Judy Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered that a 53-year-old male bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene without stopping to render aid or notify authorities.
Emergency medical personnel responded promptly, and the victim was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man succumbed to his injuries the following morning, marking a heartbreaking end to a preventable tragedy.
According to witness statements and preliminary evidence, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a white Ford F-150 pickup truck, model year 2018 to 2020. The vehicle likely sustained front-end damage and may be missing parts or have visible signs of the impact. Investigators are analyzing all leads, but they stress that community assistance is critical in locating the vehicle and identifying the driver responsible.
The Visalia Police Department’s Traffic Unit has taken the lead on the case and is actively reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences. However, they acknowledge that even small tips from the public could make a significant difference.
Officer Derek Neece, who is heading the investigation, is urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or who may have dashcam footage, security camera recordings, or cell phone video to come forward. In addition, residents or businesses located along Akers Street and surrounding neighborhoods are asked to review any footage from that evening that might provide new leads.
“This was a senseless act that has taken a life and left a family devastated,” Officer Neece stated. “We’re asking our community to stand together and help us find the person responsible so we can provide some closure to the victim’s loved ones.”
Those with information—no matter how minor it may seem—are encouraged to contact Officer Derek Neece at 559-713-4037. Callers can remain anonymous if preferred.
The Visalia Police Department extends its condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time and remains committed to pursuing every available lead until justice is served.
