Wichita Business Community Mourns Legendary Broker Herb Krumsick
In Wichita, Kansas, the business and real estate community is mourning the passing of Herb Krumsick, an esteemed commercial real estate professional whose influence shaped generations. Mr. Krumsick passed away at the age of 82 and leaves behind a legacy of integrity, leadership, and civic engagement that transformed Wichita’s commercial landscape.
Based at J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc. in downtown Wichita, where he served as Senior Vice President, Krumsick held top industry credentials including SIOR (Society of Industrial & Office Realtors), CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), CRE (Counselor of Real Estate), and FRICS (Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors).
Over a remarkable career spanning more than four decades, Krumsick brokered and managed more than one billion dollars in real estate investment transactions, earning him recognition as a national leader in industrial and commercial brokerage. He lectured widely, delivering hundreds of speeches and seminars on real estate investment to organizations such as the SIOR, CCIM Institute, and the National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives.
Krumsick was also deeply connected to his alma mater, Wichita State University, where he graduated in 1965. A former Shocker football co-captain, he remained involved with the university throughout his life, serving on the Alumni Association, the Athletic Association Booster Club, and as Real Estate Chair for the Department of Business Administration. In 2011, the WSU Center for Real Estate honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his enduring impact on both the university and the industry.
Among his many accolades, Krumsick was recognized as SIOR Instructor of the Year in 1990 and received the Howell Watson Award for Distinguished Service to the SIOR, the Walter Morris Broker of the Year Award, and multiple Dollar Volume Transaction Awards. His firm and colleagues described him as a cornerstone of Wichita’s business landscape, a mentor to countless professionals, and a trusted advisor to corporate leaders across Kansas and beyond.
In Wichita’s commercial real estate community, Krumsick’s reputation extended far beyond deal-making. He was celebrated for his fairness, professionalism, and unwavering ethical standards. Colleagues recall that he treated every transaction as an opportunity to build relationships and strengthen the local economy. Many remember his personal motto: “Success isn’t what you achieve—it’s what you leave behind.”
Outside of his professional life, Krumsick was deeply involved in civic and charitable work. He supported numerous local organizations, education programs, and youth initiatives, always emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community that helped shape his career. Though his family has requested privacy during this time, those who knew him speak of his warmth, generosity, and steady presence both in business and in life.
As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from across the state. Business leaders, former students, and civic officials reflected on how Krumsick helped shape Wichita’s modern identity. His influence is visible in the city’s growing business parks, commercial centers, and in the many professionals he mentored who now lead firms of their own.
With Mr. Krumsick’s passing, Wichita has lost a guiding figure whose contributions extended far beyond real estate. His dedication to excellence, mentorship, and service will continue to influence the community for generations. While his absence leaves a void, his legacy—built on honesty, expertise, and compassion—remains a lasting foundation for Wichita’s continued growth and success.
