Victor Wembanyama delivered a season-high 43 points, seven rebounds, six blocks and four assists as the San Antonio Spurs beat the short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves 121-111 on Saturday night, October 31, 2026, at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The Wembanyama 43-point performance carried the Spurs to their fourth straight victory and lifted them to 4-2 on the season, while Minnesota fell to 4-3 after losing for the third time in four games.

Wembanyama, 22, was 17 of 34 from the field in a career-high 34 shot attempts, reaching 40 points for the 10th time in a regular-season game and the 11th time in his career. His defining sequence came when he blocked a three-point attempt by Minnesota forward Jonathan Kuminga, raced down the court and threw down a two-handed dunk for his 40th point, a play that summed up a night on which he dominated at both ends of the floor.

Key Points

• Victor Wembanyama scored a season-high 43 points with seven rebounds, six blocks and four assists as San Antonio beat Minnesota 121-111 on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
• Dylan Harper added 25 points and six assists in a regular-season career high, and De'Aaron Fox scored 20 for the Spurs in the opener of a three-game homestand.
• Ayo Dosunmu led the Timberwolves with 27 points and nine rebounds, but Minnesota played without Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo and Rudy Gobert.
• San Antonio trailed by one point at half-time before taking a five-point lead into the fourth quarter and closing the game out from there.
• The win was the Spurs' fourth in a row; the Timberwolves have now lost three of their last four games.

What Happened

San Antonio grabbed control early. Wembanyama threw the ball off the backboard to set up his own layup, and Harper then stole the ensuing inbounds pass for another layup, pushing the Spurs to a 43-33 lead. Minnesota answered in the second quarter, outscoring San Antonio 33-26 and taking 10 points off five Spurs turnovers, and the Timberwolves built their advantage to seven points before back-to-back three-pointers from Wembanyama pulled San Antonio back to within 61-60 at half-time.

Wembanyama had 24 first-half points, leading all scorers, while Fox had 10. Dosunmu had 14 points at the break for Minnesota and Jaden McDaniels added 13. The third quarter belonged to the home side: San Antonio took a five-point lead into the fourth, and when Minnesota threatened again, the Spurs answered with a 6-2 spurt and never seriously trailed again. Wembanyama's three-pointer with 2:40 left put San Antonio up 118-107, and the Spurs closed out a 121-111 win.

The box score told the story of a two-way masterclass. Alongside Wembanyama's 43 points came seven rebounds, six blocks and four assists. Harper's 25 points set a regular-season career high for the young guard, and his six assists kept the offence moving when Minnesota tried to load up on Wembanyama. Fox, scoring 20, gave San Antonio a third reliable option. For Minnesota, Dosunmu's 27 points and nine rebounds led the way in a depleted line-up, but the Timberwolves could not find enough scoring once the Spurs tightened up in the second half.

Background and Context

The result continued a remarkable early-season run for San Antonio. The Spurs have now won four games in a row, and the victory over Minnesota came in the opener of a three-game homestand at the Frost Bank Center. Wembanyama's night was historic by franchise standards: he was reported to be the first Spurs player since David Robinson in 1996 to record at least 40 points and five blocks in a single game, a measure of just how rare his combination of scoring volume and rim protection is.

Minnesota, by contrast, arrived in San Antonio short-handed and left with its injury problems exposed. The Timberwolves were already without star guard Anthony Edwards because of a knee injury and without Donte DiVincenzo, who has had Achilles surgery. They then lost defensive anchor Rudy Gobert, who was ruled out with low back spasms, leaving coach Chris Finch without three of his most important players against the most difficult defensive assignment in the league.

The Halloween setting added colour to the occasion. Wembanyama arrived at the Frost Bank Center dressed as Geralt of Rivia, the monster-slayer from The Witcher, and then produced a monster game of his own. At the start of this season, Wembanyama has said he plays better when he is having fun, and on Saturday night he chose, at times, the most entertaining option rather than the most practical one — the off-the-backboard layup, the coast-to-coast dunk after a block, the late three-pointer that sealed the game.

It is also worth remembering how recently the two teams' fortunes have diverged. Minnesota had beaten the Los Angeles Clippers 127-101 on October 30, a game in which the Timberwolves also played without Edwards, and San Antonio's own recent form included a 130-103 win over Sacramento in which Wembanyama starred in an 80-point first half. Saturday's meeting was the first time the two sides had tested each other at something close to full strength this season — and Minnesota, missing three starters, could not keep up.

Wembanyama 43: How the Spurs Star Took Over

The numbers only partly capture Wembanyama's influence. His 43 points came on 34 field-goal attempts, a career high, and his willingness to shoot did not come at the expense of his defence: six blocks, seven rebounds and four assists completed a line that few players in NBA history could match. His 24 first-half points kept San Antonio in touch when Minnesota's second-quarter surge threatened to take the game away, and his back-to-back three-pointers before half-time turned a seven-point deficit into a one-point game.

What stood out most was the variety. Wembanyama scored at the rim, from three-point range and in transition, and his block on Kuminga followed by a dunk at the other end was the kind of two-way sequence that breaks an opponent's spirit. Minnesota had no answer once Gobert was ruled out: without its defensive anchor, the Timberwolves had nobody who could contest Wembanyama at the rim and recover to the perimeter, and the Spurs star exploited both weaknesses.

Harper's contribution mattered just as much to the result. His 25 points were a regular-season career high, and his six assists showed a growing comfort as a secondary playmaker. Fox's 20 points gave San Antonio three players at 20 or more, and the balance of the Spurs' attack meant Minnesota could not simply double Wembanyama and dare somebody else to beat them. Somebody else did, repeatedly.

Reactions and Quotes

The post-game coverage framed the night as a statement performance. Sports Illustrated headlined its report on the game with the words "So Dominant", reflecting a night on which Wembanyama's 43 points, seven rebounds and six blocks overwhelmed a short-handed opponent. The Spurs' own social media channels celebrated the Halloween performance, sharing clips of the block-and-dunk sequence that brought up his 40th point.

For Minnesota, the story was less about one performance than about absence. The Timberwolves' injury list — Edwards with a knee injury, DiVincenzo after Achilles surgery, Gobert with low back spasms — was the context for everything that happened in San Antonio, and the defeat, their third in four games, underlined how much they need their stars back. The Timberwolves will host the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night, a game that will test whether their depth can hold up until the injured players return.

There was also a quieter significance to the win for San Antonio. Four straight victories, a 4-2 record and a homestand still to come give the Spurs a platform in the Western Conference, and Wembanyama's form — a season-high 43 points, his 10th 40-point regular-season game — suggests the team's ceiling is set by its star. When he plays like this, and when Harper and Fox play the way they did on Saturday, San Antonio looks like a team that can beat anybody.

Why It Matters

This game matters because it showed what the Spurs can be when Wembanyama is at his best and his supporting cast plays with confidence. A 43-point, six-block game from a 22-year-old centre is not a normal occurrence, and the fact that it came against a good Western Conference opponent — even a depleted one — makes it a useful measuring stick for where San Antonio stands. The Spurs' four-game winning streak is their best run of the young season, and it has been built on defence, ball movement and a star who can take over a game in a dozen different ways.

For Minnesota, the game matters as a warning. The Timberwolves are 4-3, but three losses in four games, with their three most important defensive and offensive pieces missing, show how thin the margin is in the West. Edwards' knee, DiVincenzo's Achilles and Gobert's back are not short-term niggles, and every game played without them is a game in which the Timberwolves must find scoring and rim protection from players who are not used to providing both.

For the wider NBA, Saturday night was a reminder of Wembanyama's singular talent. Players who can score 43 points, block six shots and run the floor for a dunk after blocking a three-pointer do not come along often, and the Spurs' job now is to build a team worthy of him. On the evidence of Saturday night, with Harper setting career highs and Fox scoring efficiently, they are making progress.

What Happens Next

San Antonio continues its three-game homestand at the Frost Bank Center, with the chance to extend a four-game winning streak in front of its own fans. The key question is whether Wembanyama can sustain this level of production — and whether Harper's career-high night is a sign of a permanent step forward rather than a one-off. If both answers are yes, the Spurs will be a difficult team to beat all season.

Minnesota returns home to host the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. The Timberwolves will hope for positive news on Gobert's back spasms and on Edwards' knee, but neither return is guaranteed, and the Bucks game will be another test of a depleted rotation. Dosunmu's 27 points and nine rebounds against San Antonio showed that Minnesota has players capable of stepping up; the question is whether enough of them can do it on the same night.

Around the NBA on Saturday, Memphis stayed perfect, beating Sacramento 136-105 to improve to 6-0 and match the best start in franchise history, with Cam Boozer scoring a career-high 27 points. Houston bounced back from its first loss of the season to beat Oklahoma City 119-98 behind 30 points from Jabari Smith Jr., and Philadelphia rallied from 13 points down for a 109-104 win at Charlotte behind 38 points from Tyrese Maxey. It was a night of big individual performances across the league — but none bigger than Wembanyama's.
