Tehran, Iran — A huge new billboard in Tehran carrying a direct threat against United States President Donald Trump has appeared in the heart of the Iranian capital, even as diplomats describe intensive exchanges aimed at ending a war now in its ninth month. The Iran Trump billboard, unveiled on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in Enghelab Square, shows Trump behind bars with his head bowed, according to reports from the scene. It is the starkest public display yet of the anger still running through Tehran, and it landed the same day Iranian officials said talks with Washington were continuing and that Tehran was ready to discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz under strict conditions.

The contrast between the street and the negotiating table captures this phase of the conflict. In public, crowds gathered beneath the billboards waving red flags and banners calling for revenge. In private, mediators have shuttled proposals between the two sides, and Trump himself has said a deal "could happen." The billboard alone does not change the course of those talks, but it shows the political pressures facing leaders on both sides as they weigh a settlement against audiences at home who have lived through eight months of war.

Key Points

• Iran unveiled a massive billboard in Tehran's Enghelab Square on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, depicting Donald Trump behind bars with his head bowed.
• A second nearby billboard showed Trump alongside Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with bloodied faces and ragged suits.
• Crowds gathered waving red flags and banners reading "There will be blood," calling for revenge for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, killed in strikes on February 28, 2026.
• An open-air exhibition in northern Tehran's Tajrish Square featured paintings of a bloodied Trump and a life-size mock prison cell with an actor impersonating him.
• The displays came as Iran said intensive exchanges with Washington were under way, and as Trump said a deal with Tehran "could happen."

What Happened

The main billboard went up in Enghelab Square, one of central Tehran's busiest public spaces. Reports describe a vast image of Trump behind bars, his head bowed, above words threatening his life. A second billboard nearby widened the target: Trump together with Vance, Witkoff and Netanyahu, their faces bloodied and suits ragged, set against worn-out American and Israeli flags. Crowds gathered below, waving red flags — long used in Iran as a symbol of mourning and vengeance — and holding banners that read "There will be blood."

In Tajrish Square, in northern Tehran, the display took a different form: an open-air exhibition of paintings. One showed Trump bloodied on the ground with a foot pressing on his head. Another showed a bomb obscuring his face, a reference to Belgian artist Rene Magritte's 1964 painting "The Son of Man," in which an apple hides a man's face. A life-size mock prison cell stood nearby, with an actor impersonating Trump inside. Together, the square and the exhibition turned central Tehran into a gallery of wartime anger, staged in public and designed to be photographed and shared far beyond the city.

Background/Context

Background/Context

The war between the United States, Israel and Iran began on February 28, 2026, with strikes that killed Khamenei, according to reports from Tehran. It has since run for eight months, with naval confrontations in the Gulf, strikes on military facilities and repeated rounds of mediation, including through Qatar. The Strait of Hormuz, at the mouth of the Gulf, has been a central pressure point: Iran has restricted shipping through it at times, and the United States has struck facilities it says threatened commercial vessels, including a recent defensive operation on Qeshm Island.

State-sponsored billboards have been a fixture of Iranian public space since the 1979 revolution, and Enghelab Square has long been a stage for official messaging.

Iran Trump Billboard: A Message in Two Directions

The Iran Trump billboard works on two levels. For Iranians, it is an act of mourning and defiance: the red flags, revenge banners and mock prison cell frame the war as a national wound that has not healed, and Khamenei's death as a loss that still demands an answer. For outsiders, it is a reminder that Iran's leadership is negotiating under the gaze of a public mobilised for months by wartime messaging, and that any concession — on the nuclear programme, on Hormuz, on ceasefire terms — will be judged against that mood.

Reactions/Quotes

The most direct reactions came from the crowds themselves. Banners carried by those gathered in Tehran read "There will be blood," and the red flags they waved have become, over the war, a familiar shorthand for the demand for revenge for Khamenei's death. The displays were not presented as the work of a fringe group: they occupied two prominent squares and drew crowds in daylight, in keeping with the official street-art tradition in place since 1979.

Why It Matters

The billboard reveals the state of the war: eight months in, with mediation active, Tehran chose to escalate public rhetoric rather than soften it. That suggests any deal will face a domestic audience primed for confrontation. It also matters for energy markets, which swung sharply on war news this week, and because public threats raise the political price of concluding a deal on both sides.

What Happens Next

The test now is whether diplomatic exchanges continue at the same pace. Mediators, including Qatar, are working with proposals from both sides, and Vance has said there is no strict deadline. A formal American response would elevate the display into a diplomatic incident; silence would signal Washington will not let propaganda derail the talks.
