VANCOUVER — Cutter Gauthier hat trick heroics carried the Anaheim Ducks to a 5-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, as the 22-year-old winger recorded his team-record second consecutive hat trick in a hot scoring run in the NHL this season. Gauthier has now scored eight goals in his past three games, including six on the power play, while Anaheim has converted 10 of its past 12 chances with the man advantage. The win opened a three-game road trip for the Ducks.

Key Points

• Cutter Gauthier scored his second consecutive hat trick, a team record, as Anaheim beat Vancouver 5-4 on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
• Gauthier has eight goals in his past three games, with six of them coming on the power play.
• He is the first NHL player to score multiple power-play goals in three consecutive games.
• Mikael Granlund had a goal and two assists, while Beckett Sennecke recorded four assists for the Ducks.
• Jake DeBrusk scored twice for Vancouver, and Elias Pettersson added two assists in the loss.

What Happened

The Ducks arrived in Vancouver with their power play already rolling, and Tuesday night showed why opponents now treat every Anaheim man advantage as a danger. Gauthier was again at the centre of it. His hat trick followed another three-goal game in his previous outing, making him the first player in franchise history to record hat tricks in back-to-back games. Only one other player this season, Florida Panthers forward Brady Tkachuk, had previously recorded back-to-back hat tricks, which underlines how rare this kind of run is even in a league full of elite scorers.

Anaheim's supporting cast made sure Gauthier's goals counted. Mikael Granlund scored and added two assists, giving the Ducks a second line of production whenever Vancouver tried to focus solely on their hottest player. Beckett Sennecke collected four assists, repeatedly finding teammates in dangerous positions. Leo Carlsson also scored for Anaheim, Jackson LaCombe contributed two assists, and goaltender Laurent Brossoit made 19 saves to protect the one-goal margin.

Vancouver refused to go quietly. Jake DeBrusk scored twice, Liam Ohgren and Linus Karlsson also found the net, and Elias Pettersson set up two goals as the Canucks kept answering Anaheim's pressure. Kevin Lankinen made 17 saves in goal for Vancouver, but the Canucks could not erase the final deficit. A 5-4 scoreline was no surprise in a game with this much attacking talent, yet it was Anaheim's efficiency, especially with the extra skater, that separated the two sides.

Background/Context

Gauthier's rise has been one of the early stories of the 2026-27 NHL season. At just 22, he has become the player opposing coaches circle on the scouting report, and this three-game burst has turned that reputation into something more concrete. Eight goals in three games is a pace few players sustain, and doing it largely on the power play points to a specific skill: finding space, getting his shot away quickly, and finishing from areas where goaltenders have the least time to react.

Cutter Gauthier Hat Trick Powers Anaheim's Power Play

The most striking detail of Gauthier's run is not just the goal total, but the way the goals are coming. He is the first NHL player to record multiple power-play goals in three consecutive games, a record that captures both his individual finishing and Anaheim's ability to create clean looks for him. Power-play goals require a good entry, smart puck movement, and a pass or screen that pulls the penalty kill out of shape. Gauthier is the player turning those chances into goals at a rate that is now historic.

That distinction matters for how the rest of the league will defend Anaheim. Penalty kills are built around taking away the most dangerous option, and right now that option is clearly Gauthier. If teams overcommit to him, players like Granlund, Sennecke and Carlsson have already shown they can punish the space that opens up elsewhere. If teams stay honest and spread their coverage, Gauthier has shown he can still find the net. That dilemma is exactly what makes a great power play so hard to stop.

Reactions/Quotes

The numbers themselves have driven the reaction to Gauthier's night. A second straight hat trick, a team record, eight goals in three games and a league first for multiple power-play goals in three straight games form a statistical case that needs little embellishment. Around the league, the focus has been on the rarity of the feat: back-to-back hat tricks are uncommon at any level, and doing it while carrying a power play to a 10-for-12 run makes the achievement stand out further.

Why It Matters

This result matters for Anaheim because it shows the Ducks can win a high-scoring game on the road by being ruthless with their chances, especially on the power play. Teams that can win tight games and also outscore opponents when the game opens up are far harder to prepare for over a long season. Opening a three-game trip with a win, rather than chasing the trip from behind, also gives Anaheim a valuable platform.

It matters for Gauthier's season because records like this change how a player is viewed. He is no longer just a promising young scorer having a good week; he is now the holder of a team record and a league first this season. That profile brings more attention from opponents, but it also brings confidence and opportunity. The Ducks will keep putting him in positions to score, and on current form, that is a problem for every team on their schedule.

What Happens Next

Anaheim continues its three-game trip with a power play converting at a remarkable rate and a star winger who has scored in bunches for three straight games. The immediate question is whether the Ducks can keep that power play rolling when opponents start designing their penalty kills specifically around Gauthier. Expect teams to pressure the puck carrier earlier, block shooting lanes more aggressively, and try to force Anaheim's second unit to beat them instead.

Vancouver's next step is clearer: fix the penalty kill and tighten up defensively without losing the attacking edge that produced four goals. DeBrusk's two goals and Pettersson's two assists show the Canucks have the firepower to compete with anyone. If they can cut down the power-play goals against, the same performance in their next game could easily be worth two points instead of none.
