PHILADELPHIA — The Minnesota Wild beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Tuesday night, November 3, 2026, and the decisive moment arrived in the strangest way possible: a clearing attempt struck referee Kyle Rehman and dropped perfectly for a two-on-one that Joel Eriksson Ek finished for the winning goal. The Wild beat Flyers 4-2 result extended Minnesota's point streak to six games and its road winning streak to five, while Philadelphia's difficult start continued with another home defeat. Matt Boldy scored the opener and set up the winner, Jesper Wallstedt made 23 saves, and Minnesota improved to 11-3-3 as the Flyers fell to 4-9-4.

What Happened

The Wild wasted no time. Boldy opened the scoring from the high slot, finishing a move started by Quinn Hughes, and before the Flyers could settle, Minnesota doubled the lead. On the very next shift, a pass deflected off the skate of Porter Martone and fell for Michael McCarron, who made it 2-0. Two goals in 31 seconds silenced the home crowd and forced Philadelphia to chase the game from the first period onward.

The decisive sequence came early in the second period. Philadelphia defenceman Jamie Drysdale tried to clear the puck from his own zone, but the attempt struck referee Kyle Rehman and bounced back into space. Boldy collected it and fed Eriksson Ek on a two-on-one, and the Swedish centre finished clinically to extend the lead to 3-0. It was the kind of break every road team hopes for and every home team dreads.

Philadelphia's frustration boiled over in the aftermath. Trevor Zegras was assessed a 10-minute misconduct for shouting at Rehman, a punishment that summed up the Flyers' night — beaten by the bounce as much as by the opposition. The Flyers did score twice to make it 4-2, but Minnesota's fourth goal ensured the points travelled home, and Wallstedt's 23 saves kept Philadelphia at arm's length whenever the Flyers threatened to build momentum.

Background and Context

Minnesota arrived in Philadelphia as one of the NHL's form teams, and the result underlined why. A 5-0-1 run across six games, built on five straight road wins, has lifted the Wild to 11-3-3 and established them as a genuine early-season force. Road form of this kind is rarely accidental: it speaks to a team that trusts its structure, finishes its chances and does not panic when the home crowd finds its voice.

Philadelphia, by contrast, continues to search for consistency. At 4-9-4, the Flyers have shown flashes but have too often been undone by slow starts and costly moments — and Tuesday offered both. Conceding twice in 31 seconds in the first period is a difficult hole against any opponent; conceding a third to a deflection off an official is the kind of misfortune that can drain a dressing room. The Flyers showed fight in scoring twice, but fight without a full 60-minute performance rarely beats a team as organised as Minnesota.

Wild Beat Flyers 4-2: How the Game Turned

The turning point was a sequence of three moments in quick succession. First, Boldy's opener from the high slot, a clean finish off Hughes's pass that rewarded Minnesota's bright start. Second, the deflection off Martone's skate that handed McCarron the second goal on the next shift. Third, and most memorably, the deflection off Rehman that created Eriksson Ek's winner. Each goal changed the state of the game; together, they made Philadelphia's task almost impossible.

Boldy's influence ran through all of it. The winger scored the first, then produced the pass for the third, and his partnership with Eriksson Ek on the two-on-one was a study in composure: no panic, no extra touch, just a feed into space and a finish. Eriksson Ek, one of the league's most reliable two-way centres, did what he does best — arriving in the right place at the right moment and making no mistake.

Reactions and Quotes

No post-game quotes were included in the match reports available for this story, so this section records the on-ice reactions that were documented. The clearest came from Zegras, whose 10-minute misconduct for shouting at Rehman after the deflection goal spoke to Philadelphia's sense of injustice in the moment. It was an emotional response to a freak incident, and it cost the Flyers a key forward for ten minutes of a game they were already chasing.

Why It Matters

For Minnesota, this win matters because of what it confirms. A six-game point streak and five straight road wins are not a hot week; they are a pattern, and patterns win divisions. At 11-3-3, the Wild have banked points early, and early points are what allow a team to survive the injuries and slumps that every NHL season brings.

For Philadelphia, the defeat matters for the opposite reason. At 4-9-4, the Flyers are drifting, and drifting teams need a spark — a comeback win, a shutout, a night when the bounces go their way. Tuesday was not that night. The challenge now is to separate the bad luck from the bad habits: the deflection was unfortunate, but the 31-second collapse that preceded it was not, and that is where the coaching staff will focus.

What Happens Next

Minnesota will look to extend both streaks in its next outing, with the point streak at six games and the road winning run at five. If Boldy and Eriksson Ek keep producing, and Wallstedt keeps stopping 23 of 25, the Wild will be difficult for anyone to beat.
