The Arizona Cardinals are finalising a trade that will send veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens, giving an injury-hit Baltimore side an experienced starter at the most important position on the field. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that the Jacoby Brissett Ravens trade is being completed, with the deal expected to be finished this weekend. Trade compensation had not yet been reported, but the need behind the deal is clear: Baltimore needs a quarterback urgently, and Brissett, 33, needs a team where he can play.

The Ravens, 4-4, have lost star quarterback Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury and backup Tyler Huntley to a toe injury. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will therefore start Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, because the Brissett deal cannot be completed in time. The veteran's likely debut would then come in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers on November 15, a game that could shape Baltimore's playoff hopes.

What Happened

Reports of the trade emerged on Wednesday, with LaFleur confirming that Arizona and Baltimore were working through the final stages. Neither club had published a formal trade announcement when the reports landed; paperwork, medical checks and league formalities still have to be finished.

For Baltimore, the urgency is obvious. Jackson's thumb injury removed the former Most Valuable Player from the line-up, and Huntley's toe injury then took away the experienced backup. The Ravens explored veteran options before the November 10 trade deadline, and Brissett fits the profile they wanted: a quarterback who has started games in this league and can run an offence at short notice.

Thursday night against a 5-2 Jacksonville side comes too soon, so Fagnano will make his first career NFL start. The hope is that Brissett gives Baltimore a steadier hand from the Chargers game on November 15.

Background: How Brissett Ended Up on the Trading Block

Brissett began this season as Arizona's starting quarterback, completing 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,719 yards, with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions across eight starts. Those numbers describe a competent but unspectacular spell: enough production to keep an offence functioning, but not enough to lift a struggling team on his own.

The turning point came in Week 8, in Arizona's dramatic 33-30 comeback win at Dallas. Brissett was benched during that game and replaced by Gardner Minshew, who sparked the comeback. Minshew was then named starter, third-round rookie Carson Beck was promoted to backup, and Brissett dropped to third string. Once a veteran starter falls to third on the depth chart, a trade becomes the logical next step for both sides.

Brissett is also set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, playing on a reworked deal worth 15.5 million dollars guaranteed for 2026. That matters for Baltimore: the Ravens are not taking on a long-term commitment, but adding a proven veteran for the rest of a season in which their playoff hopes are still alive.

Jacoby Brissett Ravens Trade: What It Means for Baltimore

The Jacoby Brissett Ravens trade changes the maths for Baltimore in two ways. First, it gives the Ravens a quarterback who has done this job before, across several NFL teams and a long career. That experience matters when a new playbook must be learned in days. Brissett will not be expected to be Lamar Jackson, only to protect the football and move the chains.

Second, it buys the Ravens time. Jackson's recovery timeline will decide Baltimore's ceiling this season, and no trade can replace a player of his quality. What Brissett can do is stop the season slipping away while Jackson recovers. At 4-4, Baltimore is still in the playoff race, but the margin for error is thin, and a veteran under centre keeps the season alive.

Reactions and What Has Been Confirmed

The firmest fact is LaFleur's confirmation that the trade is being finalised, which matters because trade reports can collapse late. The reports added the key details: completion this weekend, too late for Thursday night, and a likely debut against the Chargers on November 15.

What has not been confirmed is just as important. Neither team had announced the compensation Arizona will receive, and no official statement had set out Brissett's exact role beyond the obvious expectation that he will compete to start while Jackson is out. Fans should therefore treat the compensation and the precise debut date as likely rather than locked in until the clubs announce the deal formally.

Why It Matters

This trade matters because it could decide Baltimore's season. The Ravens are 4-4 in a crowded AFC race where one or two defeats can end a playoff push, and Thursday night's start for Fagnano shows how thin the position had become. Adding Brissett does not solve every problem, but it solves the most urgent one: Baltimore will have a veteran quarterback available for the games after Thursday night. It is also a reminder that contending teams pay for experience when injuries strike.

What Happens Next

Baltimore plays Jacksonville on Thursday night with Fagnano starting, while the Brissett deal is completed over the weekend. Brissett will then join the Ravens and prepare for the Chargers game on November 15, his likely debut. After that, everything depends on Jackson's recovery: a quick return makes Brissett valuable insurance, while a longer absence could see him start games that decide Baltimore's playoff fate.
