First Lady Melania Trump will bring confirmed Russian and Ukrainian delegations together at the White House on Thursday, November 5, 2026, for a Melania Trump White House meeting centred on the humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshky, in Ukraine's southern Kherson region. She is scheduled to deliver remarks on the ceasefire at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time, in a gathering the White House has described as an extraordinary moment in American history.

The names are the new development. When the White House first announced the meeting on Tuesday, November 3, it did not identify the representatives. By Wednesday, reporting by CNN, RFE/RL and Ukrainian media, confirmed by the Kremlin, had filled in both sides: Ukraine will be represented by human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and lawmaker David Arakhamia, while Russia will be represented by human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova and Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

Key Points

• Melania Trump hosts Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with remarks at 11:00 a.m. ET on the Oleshky ceasefire.
• Ukraine's delegation is Dmytro Lubinets, the human rights ombudsman, and David Arakhamia, head of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Servant of the People parliamentary faction.
• Russia's delegation is Yana Lantratova, Russia's human rights commissioner, and Kirill Dmitriev, a Kremlin envoy and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.
• The gathering is expected to review the six-day Oleshky humanitarian operation and discuss further humanitarian cooperation, rather than broader peace terms.
• The meeting comes ahead of separate United States-mediated Russia-Ukraine talks scheduled for Abu Dhabi on November 10-11.

What Happened

The White House announced on Tuesday that Mrs Trump would personally bring representatives of Russia and Ukraine together, and that she would deliver remarks on the Oleshky ceasefire at 11:00 a.m. ET on Thursday. The announcement said she had independently initiated engagement between the two warring nations and had successfully secured a ceasefire in Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region, which enabled the evacuation of hundreds of civilians over the weekend.

That announcement named no one. The gap was filled on Wednesday, when RFE/RL, Ukrainian media and CNN reported the Ukrainian side and the Kremlin confirmed the Russian side, according to CNN and the Jerusalem Post. The four named officials were directly involved in, or closely associated with, the Oleshky humanitarian operation, which makes Thursday's guest list a working reunion of the people who carried it out rather than a general diplomatic reception.

The distinction matters: the gathering is expected to review the operation and discuss further humanitarian cooperation, not negotiate the wider war. The broader track resumes next week, in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11.

Background: The Oleshky Ceasefire

Oleshky is a town in the Russian-occupied Kherson region of southern Ukraine, on the front line of the war. From October 27 to November 1, 2026, a six-day local ceasefire held there, allowing humanitarian aid deliveries and the evacuation of nearly 800 vulnerable civilians. It was a rare instance of direct, practical cooperation between Ukrainian and Russian officials in the middle of an active war, coordinated in large part through the two countries' human rights commissioners.

The White House says Mrs Trump independently initiated the engagement that produced the ceasefire. Ukrainian officials have credited her role publicly: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded her Ukraine's Order of Princess Olga, the country's highest state honour for women, in a decree dated November 2 and published November 4, citing her significant personal contribution to humanitarian support and to work for Ukrainian children. That award, and the White House meeting itself, have turned a local operation into one of the most visible diplomatic episodes of the week.

Melania Trump White House Meeting: The Delegations in Detail

On the Ukrainian side, Dmytro Lubinets is Ukraine's Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. He travelled to the Oleshky area to oversee the operation and has spoken publicly about its conduct and about discussions of additional humanitarian missions. David Arakhamia is a lawmaker and head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, President Zelenskyy's party in Ukraine's parliament, giving the Ukrainian delegation both a human rights and a political dimension.

On the Russian side, Yana Lantratova is Russia's human rights commissioner, Lubinets's counterpart, and she worked with him on the Oleshky operation. Kirill Dmitriev is a Kremlin envoy and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and he has participated in previous United States-mediated negotiations involving Russia. His presence links Thursday's review to the wider track, though it is not billed as a peace negotiation.

Reactions and Statements

The White House has framed the gathering in historic terms, calling it, in its announcement, "an extraordinary moment in American history". That language reflects the rarity of the occasion: representatives of two countries at war, meeting at the White House at the invitation of the First Lady, to discuss a humanitarian operation rather than a battlefield development.

The Kremlin confirmed on Wednesday that Russia would be represented by Lantratova and Dmitriev, according to CNN and the Jerusalem Post,. Ukrainian media and RFE/RL reported the Ukrainian delegation on the same timeline. Neither side has previewed detailed proposals.

Why It Matters

Humanitarian operations in wartime are usually negotiated quietly, through intermediaries, and announced only after they succeed. Thursday's meeting reverses that pattern: it puts the officials who ran a successful operation in the same room, in public, at the White House, and asks what comes next. If it produces agreement on further missions, it could open a channel that saves civilian lives in other frontline towns. If it produces only ceremony, it will still stand as a rare public moment of Ukrainian-Russian contact in a war with few of them.

What Happens Next

Mrs Trump will deliver her remarks at 11:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, November 5. The delegations are expected to review the operation and discuss further cooperation, and any announcements about additional missions are likely to emerge from the meeting or afterwards. Beyond Thursday, attention turns to Abu Dhabi on November 10-11, a separate track this meeting is not expected to replace or settle.
