What Happened

The Warriors made a slow start and did not take their first lead until a Stephen Curry layup with 1:38 left in the second quarter. Curry managed only seven points on 2-of-10 shooting in the first half, Then came the third quarter. Curry scored 14 points in it, making three three-pointers, as the Warriors outscored the Heat by 15 and took control. He added eight more points in the fourth to finish one point short of a fourth straight 30-point game, ending the night with 29 points in 28 minutes on 9-of-19 shooting, 6-of-12 from three and 5-of-5 from the line, with four assists, one steal and no turnovers.

He had plenty of help. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Draymond Green ran the offence with a season-high 11 assists and held Giannis Antetokounmpo to 20 points and 14 rebounds. Klay Thompson, returning to Chase Center in a Heat uniform, finished with 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting and did not play in the fourth quarter. Andrew Wiggins managed only two points, so the two former Warriors combined for just 13, and Miami committed 19 turnovers.

In Phoenix, the Suns controlled their game against Orlando from early on. Devin Booker led the way with 30 points, eight assists, four three-pointers and three steals, while Dillon Brooks added 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Wendell Carter Jr. kept Orlando in the game with a team-high 27 points and 13 rebounds, but the Magic could not close the gap, and the Suns ran out 117-104 winners. Phoenix improved to 2-5, while Orlando fell to 2-6.

Background and Context

The Warriors' win continued one of the early season's sharpest turnarounds. Golden State opened the campaign 0-3 and looked out of sorts, but six straight wins later the team sits at 6-3 and is playing with the confidence of a side that has found its rhythm. Much of it runs through Curry, who is shooting 61.9 percent from three-point range in the third quarter this season, 13 of 21. At 38, he remains the player the Warriors turn to when a game needs deciding.

Thursday's game carried extra meaning beyond the score. Klay Thompson was back at Chase Center for the first time in a Heat uniform, facing the two men he won four championships alongside, Curry and Green. Giannis Antetokounmpo is also now wearing Miami colours, giving the Heat a new-look roster built around two stars who arrived with huge expectations.

Warriors Beat Heat 120-100: Curry's Second-Half Surge

The story of the night in San Francisco was Curry's split between the two halves. Seven points on 2-of-10 shooting before the break, then 22 points after it, including 14 in a third quarter in which he barely missed. It was the latest in a run of second-half explosions that has powered the Warriors' winning streak, and it left him one point short of a fourth consecutive 30-point game.

The night also brought a career milestone. Curry's first-quarter three-pointer moved him past Oscar Robertson into 17th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, and he finished the evening with 26,739 career points. The defence on Antetokounmpo was just as important: Green and Al Horford took turns keeping a body on the Miami star, building a wall at the rim and daring him to shoot from deep. He made only 1 of 5 three-point attempts.

Reactions and Quotes

Curry was clear about what the winning streak is doing for the group. “This run that we are on is building a lot of confidence,” he said after the game, via Anthony Slater of ESPN. On guarding Antetokounmpo: “Exactly what we expected. Just keep a body on him; he's going to have the ball a lot. Just keep applying pressure at the rim.” Green put it more bluntly: “No one in this league is stopping Giannis one on one. ... It's never a one man army when you're playing against Giannis and trying to stop him, it's a full team effort because he's a great player.”

The night's most emotional thread was Curry's reunion with Thompson. The two were matched up for much of the evening, and Curry smiled and gave his old team-mate a thumbs-up during a dead ball in the first quarter, before Thompson blocked his shot a few possessions later. “I just texted Draymond Green after the game and told him, Killer Klay, it's always good to see him having fun,” Curry said.

Why It Matters

For Golden State, the win matters because of how it was built. A team that started 0-3 has now won six in a row, and the latest victory came with Curry struggling in the first half and the defence doing the work instead. For Miami, the loss is a reminder that a new-look roster still needs time: the Heat committed 19 turnovers and scored only 100 points.

What Happens Next

The Warriors host the Orlando Magic on Saturday 7 November, the same Magic side that lost in Phoenix on Thursday. Miami visits the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, looking to steady a 3-6 start, while the Suns will try to build on Thursday's win in their next outing.
