Steven Stamkos scored his 248th career power-play goal on Saturday, November 7, 2026, passing Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille for the fifth-most in NHL history as the Nashville Predators beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 at Bridgestone Arena. The milestone goal was Stamkos's team-leading 10th of the season, and it tied the game in the first period before Nashville won its fourth straight game behind Ross Colton's second-period winner and an empty-net goal from Nick Perbix.

Key Points

• Steven Stamkos scored his 248th career power-play goal, passing Luc Robitaille (247) for the fifth-most power-play goals in NHL history.
• The Nashville Predators beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Bridgestone Arena, winning their fourth straight game.
• Ross Colton scored the game-winner at 9:02 of the second period, and Nick Perbix added an empty-net goal with 1:29 left in the third.
• Juuse Saros made 25 saves for his 12th career win against the Blues, while Joel Hofer stopped 26 shots for St. Louis.
• Nashville has points in seven of its last eight games (5-1-2), while St. Louis has lost three straight.

What Happened

St. Louis opened the scoring on a power play at 13:07 of the first period, when Jimmy Snuggerud one-timed a Philip Broberg feed short side past Juuse Saros for his ninth goal of the season. The lead lasted only about three minutes. On Nashville's own power play, a clearing attempt by Broberg wound up on Stamkos's stick, and the Predators forward beat Joel Hofer with a wide-open net for the goal that tied the game 1-1 and put him alone in fifth place on the NHL's all-time power-play goals list.

Nashville took control in the middle frame. Colton gave the Predators their first lead at 9:02 of the second period, snapping a Jack Drury pass from the slot past a screened Hofer for his fifth goal of the season. Perbix settled the game with 1:29 remaining, scoring into an empty net for his second goal of the season after the Blues pulled Hofer for an extra attacker.

Roman Josi chipped in a pair of assists for Nashville and now sits one point shy of 800 in his career. The Predators captain, who has a team-leading 18 assists, can become the first Swiss player and the fifth defenceman born outside of North America to reach the milestone.

Background

Stamkos has built his career on the power play. Drafted first overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008, he spent 16 seasons in Tampa Bay, winning the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021 and becoming one of the most feared shooters of his generation. When he joined Nashville as a free agent in July 2024, he brought that scoring touch to a Predators team looking for offence.

The record he passed belonged to one of the great goal scorers in NHL history. Robitaille, a Hall of Famer who spent most of his career with the Los Angeles Kings, finished with 247 power-play goals. Stamkos needed only one goal on Saturday to move past him, and he got it in the first period, in front of the home crowd at Bridgestone Arena. The win also continued a strong stretch for Nashville, which had already beaten the Blues 5-2 on October 17 and has now won four in a row.

Steven Stamkos and the NHL Power-Play Goals Record

Stamkos now sits behind only four players on the NHL's all-time power-play goals list: Alex Ovechkin, Dave Andreychuk (274), Brett Hull (265) and Teemu Selanne (255). Stamkos, at 248, is seven goals behind Selanne for fourth place, a mark he could realistically chase down before the end of this season if he keeps scoring at his current pace.

The milestone underlines how durable Stamkos's scoring has been. Power-play goals demand a specific skill: finding open ice, releasing the puck quickly and beating a goaltender who knows what is coming. Stamkos has done it for nearly two decades, first as the trigger man in Tampa Bay and now as a veteran leader in Nashville. His 10 goals this season lead the Predators, a reminder that his shot remains one of the most dangerous in the league.

Reactions

The milestone drew the spotlight on a night when Nashville needed a response. After falling behind early to a St. Louis power-play goal, the Predators answered on their own man advantage, and the goal that tied the game also moved Stamkos past Robitaille. The home crowd at Bridgestone Arena had a piece of history to cheer before the game was even 20 minutes old.

The result also told a wider story about the two teams. Nashville's fourth straight win kept its surge going, while St. Louis finished a four-game road trip at 1-2-1 and has now dropped three in a row. The Blues are 3-6-1 on the road this season.

Why It Matters

Milestones like this one matter because they place a current player among the game's greats. Only five players in more than a century of NHL hockey have scored more power-play goals than Stamkos now has, and every name ahead of him on the list is either in the Hall of Fame or certain to join it.

It matters for Nashville, too. The Predators signed Stamkos to score goals, and he is delivering: a team-leading 10 goals, a power-play unit that punished St. Louis, and a winning streak that has the team climbing in the Central Division. For St. Louis, three straight defeats and a losing road record are a warning sign in an unforgiving Central Division.

What Happens Next

Stamkos will now chase Selanne's 255 power-play goals for fourth place on the all-time list, seven goals away. Josi needs one more point to reach 800 for his career, a milestone that would make him the first Swiss player ever to do it. Nashville will look to extend its four-game winning streak in its next outing, while St. Louis returns home needing to stop a three-game slide.
